I would be tempted to try and get a minor nation (like Namibia) to qualify for test cricket, but was wondering if this were achieved, whether youth players generated would improve as a consequence of the higher profile national team? There is not provincial cricket simulated for the minnow nations so it would be hard to maintain the new test status without having quality players coming through.

As of v3.12 yes the players generated for the minnow nations improve/weaken depending on their status in the World Cricket League/Int Cont Cup structure. So if as Namibia you were to have a few strong years in the Intercontinental Cup then future youngsters would in general be of better ability than before. This means that over time a minnow nation should be able to gain and keep hold of test status.

I have done exactly this with Namibia and now have had test status for 3 years. the regens are coming through very slowly though and i'm not sure if they'll ever become better than what i've ever had. I think the standard has gone downhill.

hoping things will eventually start to click into motion though

ps: do you also get better regens for being higher up the test ladder?

The quality of regens depends on the internal 'rating' of your country inside the game. This is different to the rating seen in the Test and ODI Championships.

Each country starts with a rating and various things can change this. The most obvious in your case being gaining test status which will increase the rating and thus quality of regens.

Other things you can do to earn a higher rating include getting to the final of a major ICC event such as the World T20. This simulates lots of youngsters getting interested in cricket after a great performance in a big event by their team.

Thus in your case I would make an extra effort in the World Cup/World T20/Champions Trophy. The extra points gained here will bring Namibia closer to the West Indies/Zimbabwe/New Zealand in terms of quality of regens.
